How much time does your course take to complete?
6-hours. All NY DMV approved courses are at least six hours long, and is presented in one or more classroom sessions. We offer our classes in either one easy session or two evenings option. No formal testing is required to complete the course.
New York State currently does not accept
online defensive driving completion for point reduction. However, many insurance companies would allow you to complete an online course for insurance premium reduction only. If you are taking the course for Insurance reduction, check with your insurance company. However If you need to remove points from your NY driving record please choose from one of the classroom options.
How much will I save?
Completion of a New York DMV-approved Point and Insurance Reduction Program (also known as PIRP and
defensive driving) provides a 10% reduction for 3 years of the motorist's liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums. Comprehensive premiums fire and theft are not reduced. The student must calculate his/her discount based upon their individual policy. If you have a traffic ticket, the benefit's even greater:

I have more than one driver and/or multiple vehicles on my NY insurance policy?
The discount will be applied to your primary vehicle. However, you will receive additional discount for every driver who will complete the
defensive driving course... Make it a family day... we strongly encourage and offer discounts if you enroll other members of your family.
Will youthful operators and drivers participating in assigned risk pool receive the insurance premium discount?
Yes. Any insured driver who is the principal operator and completes a NY Point & Insurance Reduction
Defensive Driving Program will receive the discount
Will the PIRP course prevent my insurance company from raising my premiums?
No. Insurance reduction does not prevent general premium increases, or premium increases due to violations or accidents. It provides a 10% reduction for three years, from the base rate of your current liability, no-fault and collision premiums.
We will notify the NY DMV after you complete the course. A notice will then be entered on your New York driving record, and the NY DMV computer will automatically reduce your active point total by up to four points. "Point reduction" means the NY DMV will not count up to four points on your driving record toward license revocation or suspension.
How do I know my driving record shows my course completion?
If you need to verify the
defensive driving PIRP course completion has been entered on your record, you may request a copy of your driving record from the NY DMV. To do so, you must complete a "Request for Driver and/or Vehicle Record Information" (form MV-15) If your
defensive driving PIRP course completion is not noted on your driving record more than ten weeks after you completed it, please contact us
Who is eligible to take this course?
Any New York driver is eligible for this course and will save money on their insurance whether they have points on their insurance or not.
Who should take the course?
Each person with a New York driver license listed as a principal operated on an automobile policy must take this course in order to be eligible for a discount.
Example: if a family has a husband, wife and child and has 3 automobiles, all three operators must take the course to be eligible for a discount on each policy.
Can teen drivers take the course?
